Starlink in Cameroon 2024: Rumors and Doubts

The arrival of Starlink, Elon Musk’s high-speed internet service, in Cameroon in 2024 seems uncertain despite certain rumours. Although several sites have announced this imminent arrival, several elements suggest that the wait may be longer than expected. Nigeria was the first African country to benefit from the Starlink network in May 2022, which was preceded by official procedures, including the awarding of licenses by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to SpaceX to operate the service.

A partnership was also announced between Elon Musk and the e-commerce platform Jumia to distribute products needed to use Starlink in remote areas of Africa. However, Jumia has suspended its activities in Cameroon since 2019, which casts doubt on the immediate arrival of Starlink in the country.

In addition, SpaceX or Elon Musk have not yet officially communicated about the implementation of Starlink in Cameroon, which is contrary to their custom when a new country is added to the list of users of the service. In the absence of official announcements from the Cameroonian government regarding the request for a license from SpaceX, the arrival of Starlink in Cameroon remains uncertain for now.
