Sustainable development in hotel industry on the menu of the conference in Ha Long

The International Conference on Sustainable Development in Hotel Industry was held on Saturday, November 18 in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province (North).

Organized by the Vietnam Housekeeping Association (VEHA) under the Vietnam Hoteliers Association, the event brought together 300 local delegates and those from Kuwait Housekeeping Associations, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

VEHA Chairman Nguyen Quang said that according to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT) report, the country has only 41 accommodation facilities out of 38,000 certified ASEAN Green Hotels.

Investing in green and sustainable hotels will bring great value to investors, employees, clients, society and the environment, he emphasized.

The event discussed the understanding of sustainable tourism, the development status of tourism accommodation capacity in Vietnam and future goals, as well as solutions to promote the green transition in hotels in Vietnam and around the world, he said.

Experts and managers shared useful information and measures on how to sustainably develop hotels, ensuring a balance between investors’ interests and workers’ rights.

The representatives of Malaysia spoke about topics related to the creation of detailed plans with specific management systems to improve the quality of services and sustainable development of Malaysia, while the representatives of Indonesia shared the practices of The St.Regis Bali Resort.

Meanwhile, green and sustainable solutions in hotels in Kuwait and Thailand were also showcased at the event.
