Green tourism should be developed

The development of green tourism is the long-term direction of Vietnamese tourism in the context of changing environmental conditions. This was the common opinion of most of the speakers and participants of this forum.

Green tourism is an extremely important new approach for the sustainable development of Vietnamese tourism, with the consensus of the population, businesses and local authorities, in order to preserve the landscapes and nature, the living environment, effectively exploit the resources, natural and cultural values of each locality.

This forum was held in the province of Ba Ria-Vung Tàu, endowed with an extremely rich and diverse system of tourism resources and products, which represents one of the key places for the development of tourism in the Southeast region, the country in general.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Dao Cuong, during an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the forum.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong said that Vietnamese tourism is taking steps to recover and develop strongly after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the sector currently faces numerous challenges in the development, exploitation and use of natural resources, as well as problems of local overcrowding, poor environmental management and brand quality and diversity of tourism products, not to mention the impacts of climate change and sea level rise.

The development of green and sustainable tourism has become a trend in many countries of the world. “Green” criteria are becoming increasingly important in the selection of destinations and tourist products.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong added that in Vietnam, tourism development policies, strategies, planning and guidelines in recent years are aimed at achieving the goal of sustainable and green tourism growth, combined with the protection of nature, national cultural values and bringing benefits to local communities.

This will effectively contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. However, for tourism development policies and guidelines to be effectively implemented, determination and consensus are needed on the part of managers, local communities, businesses and individuals, as well as society as a whole.
